Robert L. Lock, II, DO, FAOAO
Dr. Lock is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon who has been in private practice since 1995. A native of Tucson, he attended the University of Arizona where he graduated with honors in 1983. He completed medical school at the University of North Texas, in Fort Worth in 1988.
He was awarded a prestigious summer fellowship with M.D. Anderson hospital during medical school. His one year of internship was completed in Phoenix and his four year residency was completed at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton under affiliation with Ohio University. He was awarded membership in both the Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Sigma Phi scholastic honorary programs during his undergraduate and graduates studies.
Upon completion of his general orthopedic residency, Dr. Lock applied for and was accepted to sub-specialty training in Adult Reconstruction Surgery, also known as Total Joint Replacement. He completed this specialty training with the internationally renowned surgeons from Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa under affiliation with the University of South Florida. This additional year of training laid the foundation for his expertise in Total Joint Replacement and complicated Joint Revision surgeries of the Hip and Knee.
Dr. Lock is a member of the Arizona Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and was recently awarded the title of “Fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics” for his outstanding contributions to the field of orthopedics. In 2009, he was accepted into the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. This is a specialty organization composed of highvolume sub-specialty trained surgeons from across the United States.
Dr. Lock has been an active member in medical staff services at local hospitals and currently serves as Past Chief of Staff at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center in Bullhead City and a Chairman of the board at Hualapai Mountain Medical Center in Kingman, Arizona. He is a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration and is a clinical faculty supervisor for Touro University.
Dr. Lock is committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centered orthopedic care. He actively encourages patients and their families to become involved and educated regarding their condition. He is known for taking the time to listen to patients and explaining complex conditions in uncomplicated ways. Passionate about education, he offers free seminars throughout the area and publishes a free quarterly newsletter on arthritis and related conditions. Although his specialty is Total Joint Replacement he offers non-surgical treatment options as well for individuals who suffer with degenerative arthritis. Treatment options may include: bracing, physical therapy, weight loss, medications, and injections.
Dr. Lock is a high volume surgeon who offers the latest-proven surgical interventions to include: Non-Muscle Cutting Joint Replacement (Fast Recovery, True Minimally Invasive, Anterior Hip, Sub Vastus Knee), Computer Assisted Surgery, and Zimmer’s Gender Knee Replacements. He is often referred more complex revision surgery cases (joint replacements that have become loose or infected) and second opinions. His current research interest is in Fast Recovery Total Joint Replacement.
